Meeting Penguins

The Astrolabe, FISH boat, is in charge of the supply for the Frech Base Dumont d'Urville in Adelie Land, 4 to 5 times a year. In December 94, when the family boarded, the iceshelf did not brake nor melt and the ship could not reach the base. We stayed 30 days at the pack limit with Ariane (3 years) and Corentin (18 months) and could only make a few steps on the ice for a short time on Christmas day, which allowed to meet with the Penguins we were observing from the deck.

En décembre 1994, exceptionnellement, la banquise n'ayant pas dégelé, le bateau n'a pu atteindre la base et a assuré le ravitaillement par hélicoptère. Nous étions à bord et n'avons pas pu débarquer. Nous avons passé 30 jours immobilisés avec Ariane (3 ans) et Corentin (18 mois).
